Welcome to your Dream Home
Built in 2007, the Summit House represents a vision of extreme cutting edge architecture made real. Born from owner’s background in custom architectural metal fabrication and sculpture, this home showcases the beautiful interplay between pure form and pure function.
Set on more than an acre of mountain beauty, framed by large granite outcroppings, and featuring floor-to-ceiling windows that afford sweeping views of the landscape, the Front Range, and Mt Evans, the streamlined structure proudly displays building materials that many other homes try to conceal. With an abundance of metal on the ceiling, staircase, and windows – in combination with concrete and glass – the look is as edgy as it is chic. With its raw utilitarian appeal, the industrial style and flowing, open floor plan of this contemporary gem give it a sophisticated edge.
The key to a unique home such as this is the blending of industrial, commercial, and residential construction techniques and materials.
The 5,400 square foot home is framed with over 65 tons of structural A-588 weathering steel (Cor-ten) and is designed with all wall and roof components as bypass, leaving the massive steel framework completely exposed to the interior. The exterior walls are made of 18 gauge corrugated Cor-ten weathering steel panels, while the commercial grade roof, made of galvanized aluminum was constructed with no fasteners and no penetrations, turning the roof into a continuous sheet and eliminating any possibility of leaks.
Taking its cue from the exterior, the interior features corrugated weathering steel, concrete floors (with hydronic heat), and touches of rust that create a built in texture to the space that combines with the warm, earth tones create a clean, cool, functional sensibility that lends just the right touch of sleekness.
Upon entry to the residence, one is welcomed by an atrium with a custom water feature and full of tropical foliage reaching toward the ceiling 26’ above, beckoning ascension of the staircase into the 2,000 square foot main area, with soaring 28’ ceilings which provides open, fluid movement between the professional style gourmet kitchen, dining area, living area and media area.
The professional grade kitchen is outfitted with a custom flame patina copper range hood, 5 commercial sinks with 2 pre-wash stations, 60” Imperial stainless steel commercial range, stainless Professional Series refrigerator/freezer and stainless steel and glass cabinets, that together create a stylish kitchen that is also undeniably functional. In addition, the kitchen, dining and living area are outfitted with six 8’x16’ bay windows that afford its residents constant exposure to the breathtaking views.
A few steps up from the main area, a private wing has been assigned to 3 of the bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and a secluded family room. Just up the massive steel staircase, a grated walk-way leads to the master suite and gym area.
Complete with 2,000 square feet of outdoor space living space, the home honors its site by providing numerous locations to enjoy the landscape and sweeping views. An al-fresco kitchen, complete with bar and seating for 18, outfitted with a 48” commercial gas grill, 60” commercial range/oven, griddle and broiler and commercial sink, is an entertainers delight and ideal gathering place. While the circular fire pit with boulders for seating, patio space, decks and natural rock amphitheater provide the ultimate in outdoor living.
To the north of the house is the 1,625 square foot studio, a haven for artists, builders or other creative professionals. Fully heated with electric and water, the space offers the ideal area for creativity or can easily be converted (by design) into a singles tennis court, pop tennis or pickleball.
With a lack of pretension, the residence celebrates humble materials in a chic, modern way while providing functional, zero maintenance living for the ultimate in cutting edge residential architecture.
